Uzbekistan Industrial Growth Index
The industrial growth index in the first half of 2008 accounted for 112.2%. Positive trends occurred in the production of high value-added finished products.
Processing industries were the leading entities by securing 2 5 of the total industrial output growth.
Heavy industry has the biggest specific weight; here are fuel-energy, metallurgic and machine building complexes, and the industry of construction materials. Among those complexes the leading one is machine building.
These years in Uzbekistan machine building, non-ferrous metallurgy, electric power generation, chemistry, metal work were developing with advanced tempos, i.e. branches defining scientific-technical progress. Only for the last several years such big industrial enterprises as Tashkent and Syrdarya heat power stations, Navoi Electric Chemical Integrated Works, Almalyk Chemical Plant, Angren Rubber Integrated Works, Tashkent Motor Plant, Samarkand Plant of Domestic Refrigerators, Kuvasay Chinaware Plant and the others have been constructed in the republic.
